A seven minute excerpt from the documentary film, "Independent America: Rising from Ruins" (http://www.risingfromruins.com). It airs starting January 2009 in Canada. We've also submitted it to a number of festivals, including South by Southwest and Tribeca (and hopefully my hometown Seattle International FF!). Three weeks away from the world premiere of our film, "Independent America: Rising from Ruins" on the 3rd anniversary of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.  This is the second trailer of the film (the first is here), a necessary effort even with so little time left, as all of our promoters (grassroots, online, and big broadcast sales) demand more ammunition for their marketing salvo.

The film will be featured at the Katrina-related event, "We Are The Ones We've Been Waiting For," organized by The New Orleans Institute.  You can also catch the film on YouTube or better yet, in HD on Vimeo.

We're nearly done shooting the documentary, "Independent America: Rising from Ruins" (with a scheduled premiere of August 30 2008 in New Orleans, on the 3rd anniversary of Katrina).  In today's world of social media and the neverending conversation, it's best to start "selling the message" even when you're still a work-in-progress.  And the people of New Orleans have a powerful message to tell.

Independent America in the Hot Zone

A third Independent America clip is now up on "Kevin Sites in the Hot Zone."

We've certainly kick started a vigorous debate out there.  Which is the whole point to the film.  We raise issues, but we're not going to beat anyone over the head with clear answers.  It's up to you to decide where you want to shop, and how you want your local economies to grow. 

We prefer to shop local, but we still do spend money at chains as well (heck, I've met with clients at Starbucks at their request and had a Jack-in-the-Box burger this weekend!).  Still, after producing our film, we now understand why it's so important that a vibrant economy (and democracy) maintains a healthy independent business sector.

Or just buy the full documentary on DVD .  If you happen to be in Seattle this Saturday, we're attending a benefit screening of the film in Queen Anne!
